When shooting indoors, or shooting suppressed -- your exposure to gas and the lead therein can increase drastically.  Lead poisoning builds up in the body over months and years -- and takes a long time to leave your system.  The best way to minimize lead exposure is simple hand washing after shooting, which is sufficient for casual shooters.  However, MIL/LEO and hardcore enthusiasts will need more protection against lead build-up and that's where a SOTR comes into play.
